I started Zoe Makes Bags in early 2020 after returning from five years of travel and living abroad. The idea came to me because, as I explored the world, no matter the country, climate or activity, the one thing I always wanted to have with me was my water bottle - but I never wanted to have to carry it!
I also noticed that without an easy way to carry a reusable water bottle, travellers were constantly buying single-use plastic bottles, then throwing them away as soon as they finished, only to buy another when they were thirsty again. I saw people slurping through 2-3 plastic bottles a day, often in countries with no meaningful recycling programs. You don't need me to tell you why that’s not great.
So with my idea waiting in the back of my mind, as soon as I returned to New Zealand from my travels, I dusted off my old sewing machine and made the first bag, and just like that, Zoe Makes Bags was born.
